Expansion tanks
The expansion tanks are used to store the coolant. When the temperature rises, the coolant expands, causing an increase in the pressure in the engine cooling system. The fluid pressure is controlled by a pressure valve located in the tank cap.
The expansion tank is usually made of plastic and can have a multi-chamber layout. To ensure that the level of coolant is controlled, it can be transparent and have an additional level indicator or an electronic liquid level sensor.
